The Party
The members of the Women’s Board of the Lyric Opera of Chicago outdid themselves with this highly anticipated triennial event, raising a remarkable $1.8 million to benefit the opera. The crowd of more than 400 philanthropists, wine collectors and guests were able to bid on rare wines and exclusive travel opportunities throughout the night. The evening’s menu was prepared by Executive Chef Thomas Lents of the two Michelin-starred Sixteen restaurant and featured paired wines for each course.

The People
The man of the hour, David Launay of Château Gruaud Larose in Bordeaux, was the honored guest, but the lady of the night was clearly Renée Fleming, as two dinners hosted by Fleming in the purchaser’s home and catered by Calihan Catering, each went for $32,000.

Best in Show
Our favorite part? Hall Wines of Napa Valley created a special 2012 cabernet sauvignon. The commemorative bottles, dedicated to the Lyric—and appropriately called Song—were offered in a limited number of hand-painted and etched magnums. The night ended with over 30 bottles of Song auctioned off, including one special 6-liter selection that was presented at the live auction.
