Stephen Colbert and celebrity alumni spent A Starry Night at Northwestern University.
THE PARTY Bathed in purple and curtained in twinkling lights, the new Ryan Fieldhouse mimicked a night sky for CommFest 2018 as Northwestern University School of Communication celebrated the school’s storied past and bright future. THE PEOPLE The evening started with a prerecorded video skit that featured alums Seth Meyers and the variety show’s emcee, Stephen Colbert. In his opening monologue, Colbert shared a few heartwarming words about Northwestern President Morton Schapiro and his dedication to the university. The rollicking variety show included a powerful medley by three of Broadway’s leading men and alums: Gregg Edelman, Brian d’Arcy James and Richard Kind. THE PINNACLE The audience of more than 2,600 rose to its feet during the showstopping performance by Tony and Grammy Award winner Heather Headley with her rendition of “Home” from The Wiz. With such a variety of talent pitching in, the night was a shining success. -Leah Pentecost
