The Party
Embracing all that glitters, the Adler Planetarium’s Women’s Board welcomed more than 600 guests at its annual Celestial Ball. The gala, Starry Night, raised $1.5 million this year to support Adler’s education and outreach programs while guests relished breathtaking views of the Chicago skyline.
The People
After participating in an outdoor tented reception and silent auction, guests went inside to enjoy a delicious meal of tomato heirloom salad and herb-rubbed steak. Dinner entertainment included Adler staff members who acted as tableside “science sommeliers” as they performed amazing experiments. Afterward, guests returned outside for a sweets-filled buffet—we enjoyed our fair share of the decadent espresso mousse—and a night of dancing under the stars.
Best in Show
The evening’s decor elegantly captured Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” with striking blue tablecloths; evocative lighting; and tall, bright goldenrod flowers. One lucky couple left with more than a darling bag of takeaway macarons—they welcomed Chewbacca, an adorable chocolate Havanese puppy to their family. -Photos by Robert Carl
