Quality steaks top the menu at The Barn Steakhouse.
Amy Morton’s first Evanston eatery, Found Kitchen, is known for its creative small plates, but she has moved her second restaurant firmly in line with her family’s legacy. The Barn Steakhouse puts the emphasis on the meat. Morton is proud to be a fourth-generation restaurateur. Her father, Arnie Morton, founded Morton’s steakhouses. “I definitely learned from the best,” she says. “No one was better than my dad, and he said the same thing about his dad. Though I do think we each switched things up from the previous generation.” Anyone craving a classic steak will find it here, as heritage Angus beef in a wide variety of cuts tops the menu, served with a red wine demi-glace and marrow butterball potatoes (from $40). Amy brings a modern touch to the experience. “My spin, if you want to call it that, is that my personal expression of food is much more local and sustainable than what my dad did—yet he was the one bringing the whole side of the cow in, go figure,” she says. Other hearty entrees include bison Bolognese with hand-dipped ricotta ($28) and the heritage sirloin burger ($18).
