Zoo Ball 2016 Penguins in Paradise honored the zoo’s new flightless friends with an evening of dining and dancing.
THE PARTY In honor of the arrival of over a dozen endangered African penguins, guests appropriately wore black-tie and raised $1.35 million for the 39th annual Zoo Ball, hosted by the Women’s Board of the Lincoln Park Zoo.
THE PEOPLE The 900-plus attendees included Lincoln Park Zoo President and CEO Kevin Bell and Women’s Board President Kim Theiss. The namesake for the penguin cove, Mayari Pritzker was also in attendance. And all enjoyed the evening’s music, which started out with Ugochi and the Afro Soul Ensemble and finished off with Chicago Catz.
THE PINNACLE The warm decor was based on a sunset over the African penguins’ native habitat of Boulders Beach. FROST Chicago and Jewell Events Catering created the colorful palette and paired it with a clear-sided tent that allowed the gorgeous zoo landscape to be enjoyed as well. The impressive silent auction featured Hamilton tickets, Cubs field passes and a trip to South Africa. A wonderful welcome for the penguins to their new home, which indeed seems like paradise. –Ford Carlisle; photos by Bob Carl, Violet Dominek at John Reilly and Alain Milotti
