Forbes Fave The Lodge at Sea Island Gets A Luxurious Enhancement

Upgrades to The Lodge at Sea Island offer a private and stylish coastal escape

Close your eyes, and imagine taking in views of the Atlantic Ocean and the sound of a bagpiper’s wail in the distance—both staples of a getaway to The Lodge at Sea Island—from the porch of your own private cottage. Sounds dreamy, right? Now, that picture-perfect scene can be your reality thanks to a nearly $30 million enhancement project that introduced six new guest cottages to the five-star resort.

Like the rest of x the spacious ocean-facing cottages are European in style, but undeniably Southern when it comes to the warm and welcoming amenities offered. After you’re personally guided to the front door by one of the friendly butlers (who are at your beck and call throughout your stay), you’ll step inside to discover a main room with wide-plank hardwood floors, handsome leather furniture, an iron chandelier surrounded by exposed beams and a cozy fireplace. Off of the parlor, two bedrooms (with the exception of one cottage that boasts four bedrooms to accommodate larger groups) reveal plush bedding, local artwork and custom framed television cabinets; this is where you’ll return from dinner at The Lodge’s steakhouse, Colt & Alison, to find a plate of freshly baked cookies and the Golf Channel flipped on in the background to lull you to sleep. Sleek marble bathrooms with a free-standing soaker tub and Molton Brown products round out the cottages’ luxurious perks, as well as two porches that serve as a secluded perch for couples traveling together, or a family who simply wants some extra space to spread out. The porches are the ideal spot to catch a salty breeze while sipping Nespresso coffee (or something stronger from the wet bar) before hitting the links, embarking on a private hawk walk or setting sail on a sunset cruise—the options are endless.

Cottage dwellers also have prime walkability to The Lodge’s pristine new oceanfront pool and pool house, which, with its wraparound porch and double fireplaces, feels right at home on the charm-filled property. And with so many ways to unwind at your fingertips, so will you. Two-bedroom cottages from $1,549 per night, 100 Retreat Ave., St. Simons Island,

Perhaps the most-anticipated highlight of The Lodge at Sea Island’s enhancement project is the Golf Performance Center, a 17,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor state-of-the-art facility that debuted in March. Here are some of the wow-factor features to expect when you make a reservation—all skill levels welcome, of course.

Six Instruction and Club Fitting Bays
Opt for a customized instruction program; then let the center’s three full-time Golf Digest top 100 club fitters help you find a set of clubs.

View Your Swing Technology
Upload videos for your instructor to see all shots from every angle, or watch a sample lesson.

Fitness Center with 3D Technology
Relax postgame with a cryotherapy session, or enhance your athleticism using two cutting-edge programs: NG360 (Nike Golf Performance Assessment) and TPI (Titleist Performance Institute Assessment). Sea Island’s the only place that offers both.
