THE PARTY More than 700 guests, including esteemed former ballet dancer Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago designer Maria Pinto, joined the Joffrey Ballet in honoring 60 years of ballet with a night of fine dining and, of course, dance. THE PEOPLE The evening opened with an hourlong performance at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, featuring innovative adaptations of ballet classics performed by Joffrey Academy and Company dancers alike. At the conclusion of the show, Joffrey Artistic Director Ashley Wheater and Executive Director Greg Cameron recognized the gala’s co-chairs, including Women’s Board President Patti Eylar, and welcomed the many guests to the jubilee, which was only just getting started. THE PINNACLE Following the performance, and a host of drinks and meals by Hilton Chicago’s Executive Chef Mario Garcia, attendees were treated to a dynamic performance by Joffrey Community Engagement dancers, some as young as 5 years old. The event raised more than $1 million to support programs like these, which seek to provide students of all ages the opportunity to grow as individuals through the art of dance. Bravo, indeed. –Photos by Dan Rest
