Gateway for Cancer Research raised nearly $3.5 million at this year’s Cures Gala, Gateway to Oz.
THE PARTY Gateway for Cancer Research’s 26th annual Cures Gala had a unique backdrop: the Emerald City. Attendees were treated to an evening of whimsical surprises, including a custom culinary experience from chef Markus Ford with dishes like Emerald City forest greens with compressed pickled honeydew, edamame mousse and basil-mint emulsion. THE PEOPLE Over 800 guests found they weren’t in Kansas anymore, including Richard J Stephenson, founder and chairman of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson, CTCA chairman of functional medicine. THE PINNACLE Organizers rolled out the yellow brick road for an evening of showstopping music with iconic performers like the dynamic singer Matteo Bocelli, American Idol finalist Pia Toscano and opera singer Laura Bretan of America’s Got Talent. To top off the evening, pop legends and headline performers Earth, Wind & Fire took the stage for an enthralling performance. -Ally Zacek
