The spotlight is on Lucy Godínez as she takes the lead in two area productions this fall.

The first time Evanston’s Lucy Godínez (lucygodinez.com) appeared onstage at Lincolnshire’s Marriott Theatre, she was in her mother’s stomach. This past summer—22 years later—they shared that stage again when Godínez starred in Footloose with her mom, actor Nancy Voigts. Her father, Goodman artistic associate Henry Godínez, watched proudly. “Ever since I was little, my parents knew I was going to be an actor,” Lucy shares. “I wouldn’t travel without costumes!” At Evanston Township High School, she divided her time between stage and soccer field, but by the time she arrived at Northwestern, she knew the stage was where she belonged. During school, she starred in campus productions (including the 2017 and 2018 Waa-Mu shows), and was cast in two professional Chicago shows: Porchlight’s In the Heights and Hair at the Mercury Theater. Since her 2018 graduation, she’s worked steadily, a rarity for young actors. Don’t miss her Writers Theatre debut as Little Red Riding hood in Sondheim’s Into the Woods (through Sept. 22, tickets $50-$80, writerstheatre.‌org). Later this fall, she will once again take the Marriott Theatre, this time as Nancy, the barmaid with a heart of gold, in Oliver! (Oct. 30-Dec. 29, tickets $50-$60, marriotttheatre.com). Broadway can’t be far behind; this girl is on fire.
