“I’ve found that when people are given the tools to look into themselves and reflect on who they are—without judgment—that’s when change can happen,” says Debbie Marks, health education specialist, yoga instructor, mother of three and owner of Northshore Family Health & Fitness. After becoming a mom and understanding the challenges parents face daily, Marks decided it was time to make a difference in her community.
Why is this kind of center needed? Kids and adults are overly stressed these days. Our goal is to give our clients tools to manage stress. In addition, we have workshops that focus on healthy-living techniques like ridding your home of toxins.
Who is your typical client? We offer sports and yoga lessons for kids 3 years old and up. Workshops, meditation, yoga and fitness are offered for teens and adults. We make it a priority to meet people exactly where they are in their unique, individual journey.
How are you helping people change their health outlook? My role is to take people out of their comfort zones by challenging them mentally and physically; the rest is up to them. When students tell me they love coming to class, it’s not only about what I’m teaching; it’s about what they choose to take from the class and how they incorporate it into their daily lives. The biggest reward is seeing a shift in a client’s behavior, attitude and overall outlook on life. 630 Green Bay Road, Kenilworth, northshorefhf.com
